Hi, I’m Paula Borges.

She/Her

Counsellor & Psychotherapist

based in Brisbane, Australia.

I’m registered with the Australian Counselling Association, level 4 counsellor and psychotherapist.
Originally trained as a psychologist in Brazil with more than a decade of experience supporting people through emotional, relational and life challenges.

I work with clients across the life span, particularly those who are carrying challenges not always visible to others.

How I work

My work is grounded primarily in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an evidence-based approach with more than 40 years of research, and now one of the most extensively studied contemporary behavioural therapies.
During our work together I also blend through other evidence-based approaches, including Compassion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-based approaches, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, and Im strongly informed by attachment theory, and trauma.

From our first sessions, I take time to understand you as a person, not only the difficulties that brought you to therapy. I will be attentive to what feels most important to you, what has been happening in your life, and the experiences and patterns that may be shaping what you are going through. Together, we can make sense of what is happening and develop a direction for an effective therapy.

We may work through some difficult thoughts and emotions, patterns in relationships, behaviour, your body/nervous system, and the wider circumstances shaping what you are going through.

From there, we can identify realistic and practical steps towards developing greater clarity, psychological flexibility and self-compassion, while creating room for a life that feels meaningful and your own.
